The lights dim, and the dancers dance, and fly, and dance while flying. Then suddenly Leontiev flies in, and performs several consecutive somersaults in the air. Once landed he begins to sing:
What a great song, it describes him so well. He had my attention, that did not waver for the entirety of the show. Then came Весна на Заречной улице and Настройшик. Роза Каира included a very bright dance number. Виновник entailed his usual trip into the crowd. And he finished the first section with Ураган Сузанна.
The show he performed for us was not exactly the same as what people described before, there were some notable differences. Some suprises included Девять Хризантем and Птица в Клетке (which I have not heard in years). Personally, I enjoyed Давай Давай, Миллионы Ангелов, and Черно-белая любовь, even though they fell under some criticism. Мне хорошо с тобой and Пой, сердце, the last two songs in the set, I enjoyed less. They really did not reach out to me, or to the rest of the audience.
The end of the show consisted of: (He did not go into the audience - which was a bit disappointing), and Cцена. And then flew off into the air. As a bonus he also performed Народ Древний as the final song.
The show lasted two and a half hours. During the course of the show Leontiev went through five costume changes. There were I think three dance numbers, one of which invovled lots of clapping and women putting money into the dancers' pants.
Overall, I think it was an excellent show. I was somewhat upset that people began to leave as he was singing Ты меня не забывай, so maybe that is why he didn't go into the audience. Since people were moving around it got noisy, and the last two songs it felt like he had to sing over the noise. I think that shows a tremendous amount of disrespect for the artist. I sat in my seat till the very end, applauded as loud as I could, and enjoyed every single minute of it. I can't wait until he comes back.
Valery Leontiev is indisputably my favorite pop artist of all time. I have been listening to his music since before I could walk. His concerts are always amazing, and this one was no exception. He was on stage for two and half hours, and his show, which also included a group of very talented dancers, was as always full of energy and excellent music. Every year, his shows are different, always featuring different music, including songs I had never heard before. This year he also suprised me with some old songs, that I had not heard in years. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time.
To me the most thrilling part, however, came before the show, when I got to meet him in person. This was not an easy task to accomplish, because I had to sneak in to his dressing room, and somehow get past the Taj Mahal security. After some scouting and careful timing, I was able to sneak in to the dressing rooms through a back entrance, while the security was not paying attention. Once in, however, no body bothered me, I was walking back and forth as if I was supposed to be there. I finally managed to find Leontiev and slowly stepped inside the room that he was in. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was almost sure that upon seeing me, he would probably call security and they would drag me out, and throw me in jail. Just the opposite happened. He was very friendly and gladly gave me an autograph. We even chatted for a few minutes. At the end of the conversation, I told him to "break a leg." He didn't quite understand, and asked me how that would sound in Russian. I translated it, but he was still a little confused as to why I was telling him to go out and break a bone. So I explained that it was term used to wish a performer good luck. He smirked and said that his leg was already broken, or rather his toe. I laughed, shook his hand, and took my leave of him. I couldn't help but wonder how he planned on dancing with a broken toe, but it didn't seem to bother him one bit on stage. Walking out of there, I was jumping up and down with excitement...it was like a dream come true.
